Elyse Johnson is a queer, mixed American artist working in video and performance. Raised in Memphis, Tennessee and currently based in New York, her practice investigates imperialism, temporalities, spectacle, and power. Johnson graduated from the Art Academy of Cincinnati in 2015 where she was awarded the Stephen H. Wilder Traveling Scholarship. Johnson has exhibited internationally and was featured in the most recent edition of Hiss Magazine and Screening at the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, Ohio. Johnson maintains a curatorial practice that centers liveness and shifting perceptions of identity, culturally and individually. She is a current MFA Fine Arts student at Parsons School of Design and will graduate in Spring 2019.
